The Public Prosecutor’s Office confirmed this evening that searches are being conducted at the home and workplace of a senior public prosecutor due to suspected bribery.
A prosecutor from the Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office for Prosecuting Organized Crime and Corruption secured court orders to search the home and official premises of a senior public prosecutor at the Bitola Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office, based on grounds for suspecting the commission of the criminal offense of “receiving a reward for unlawful influence” (Article 359, Paragraph 3, in conjunction with Paragraph 2 of the Criminal Code). The searches authorized by these orders are being carried out by officers from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Public Prosecutor’s Office announced. They added that further details regarding the case would be released tomorrow, following the conclusion of these actions.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs had previously announced, in coordination with the specialized prosecution office (OJO GOKK), that they were conducting searches at the home and official premises associated with the Bitola Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office due to suspected corrupt criminal activities. Some media outlets reported that, unofficially, the search is linked to proceedings regarding the return of the passport of Bitola businessman Borche Markovski. Meanwhile, the broadcaster “Sitel” has learned from its own sources that the prosecutor has been detained.
