President Gordana Siljanovska – Davkova met today with the team of deep underwater explorers, who set a new depth record by exploring the Vrelo cave in the Matka canyon west of Skopje
This evening, I met with the participants of the international expedition “Vrelo 2026” and members of the “Vrelo” Cave Diving Club. They briefed me on the progress of the expedition and the historic achievement that has made the Vrelo Cave—located in the Matka Canyon—the deepest underwater cave in the world explored by humans, reaching a depth of 338 meters. I congratulated them on this extraordinary feat, noting that Vrelo is a natural phenomenon that ignites the spirit of exploration and the curiosity to uncover the secrets of nature. The cave divers shared the challenges they faced during their dive, as well as remarkable insights into the underwater world of Vrelo—such as its crystal-clear water and a moderate temperature of around fifteen degrees Celsius—along with the discovery of two new channels and over 150 meters of newly explored, expansive passages. I am proud to have had the honor of serving as the patron of this endeavor! I wish them success in their future undertakings, and I am confident that their achievement will serve as an inspiration to many other cave divers.
