The construction of the Skopje-Blace highway should be an important step in improving Macedonia’s transport connectivity with neighboring countries and the wider region, Deputy Prime Minister and Transportation Minister Aleksandar Nikoloski at the groundbreaking ceremony today. According to Nikoloski, the implementation of the project will open up new opportunities for economic development and provide better access to important regional ports, including Durres and Bar.
It is truly beautiful when new projects are started and when we see something that will bring additional development in the next few years, a strong connection of our country with Kosovo and Montenegro, opening to at least two ports – an additional opening to the port of Durres and an opening to the port of Bar – and even more strengthening of Macedonia as a crossroads in the Balkans, emphasized Nikoloski.
He noted that the Government’s determination is for Macedonia to use its geographical position and impose itself as a significant transport link in the region.
When this Government was formed in 2024, the clear policy and vision of Prime Minister Mickoski was that Macedonia should become a crossroads in the Balkans, to use our unique position where two pan-European corridors – Corridor 8 and Corridor 10 – intersect, and Corridor 11 and Corridor 6 are connected to them”, said the Deputy Prime Minister.
Nikoloski assessed that the Skopje-Blace highway will contribute to stronger regional connectivity and create additional opportunities for transport and the economy, especially by improving connections with Kosovo, Montenegro and the ports of the Adriatic Sea.
