Six policemen suspended over an alleged brutality incident

The Ministry of the Interior’s Department for Internal Control is taking action regarding the incident that occurred on October 7, 2026, involving the excessive use of physical force and the infliction of bodily injuries on individuals by police officers during the exercise of their official powers, the Ministry announced.

Based on checks performed, footage obtained from the incident, and statements from witnesses, a series of irregularities in the officers’ conduct were identified; consequently, the Department for Internal Control will initiate disciplinary proceedings against six officers for violations of workplace order and discipline, and measures will be imposed to remove them from their posts—specifically, suspension—the Ministry stated.

Two young men reported to the press that they were beaten by police officers during the incident, and a murky video footage showed an officer kicking a man. Albanian language media and parties tried to use the incident for political purposes, given that the two men are Albanians. It has since been reported that the officer who was most involved in the incident is also ethnic Albanian.
