A large share of the traffic violations registered by the Safe City camera system during the summer were from foreign motorists transiting through Macedonia.
The Interior Ministry informed that out of 310,000 violations between February and late August, 301,800 were for speeding and a little over 180,000 were by foreign motorists – or about 58 percent. In just one day this week the system caught 5,514 violations by foreign motorists. As of earlier this week, foreign motorists are required to pay theirs fines, which prompted the deployment of larger teams at the borders crossings to collect fines from all vehicles – as well as angry reactions from Serbian transit tourists.
The Interior Ministry notes that the rules must apply to all and urged all drivers to respect the rules and drive carefully.
