Another patient with West Nile virus died over the weekend at the Clinic for Infectious Diseases. The patient was a 70-year-old from the Aerodrom municipality who suffered from multiple underlying health conditions. Seven patients are currently hospitalized at the Clinic, two of whom have a severe clinical presentation, the Clinic’s director, Dr. Fadil Cana, stated today.
He noted that the deceased had spent 57 days in the Clinic’s Intensive Care Unit but passed away over the weekend despite all measures and procedures that were taken.
There has been only one new confirmed admission since September 25. In total, seven patients are hospitalized at the Clinic, two of whom have a severe clinical presentation. These are patients whose condition deteriorated, leading to their transfer to the Intensive Care Unit. One of the patients is a recent admission who presented with a severe condition from the start. All are adults with additional underlying health conditions. The latest patient is from Rosoman, while the others are primarily from Skopje, Dr. Cana noted.
Regarding whether there is a high mortality rate compared to the confirmed cases of West Nile virus in the country, he said he would not characterize the rate as high.
