The latest data for August show continued price stabilization and positive developments in the Macedonian economy.
The annual inflation rate in August 2026 was 2.6 percent, while in the same month in 2022, inflation was as high as 16.8 percent. This shows how significantly inflationary pressure has decreased compared to the period when citizens and the economy were facing strong price increases, the Government announced.
The comparison with European economies is particularly significant. According to Eurostat data published so far, inflation in the eurozone in August is estimated at 3.3 percent, compared to 2.6 percent in Macedonia. In July, inflation in the Eurozone was 2.9 percent, while in Macedonia it was 2.3 percent. This means that for the second month in a row, Macedonia has a lower inflation rate than the Eurozone.
From the Eurostat data published so far for August, Finland with 2.4 percent, Malta with 1.9 percent and Estonia with 1.3 percent have a lower rate of inflation. At the same time, a number of European economies have higher inflation rates, including Bulgaria with 5.1 percent, Spain with 4.5 percent, Belgium with 4.2 percent, Croatia with 3.7 percent, Greece with 3.7 percent, Slovenia with 3.4 percent, Italy with 3.2 percent and Germany with 2.9 percent.
These reports are particularly important considering that inflationary pressures in Europe are intensifying again. Inflation in the euro area increased from 2.9 percent in July to an estimated 3.3 percent in August, with the energy component recording an annual growth of 14.3 percent.
Macedonia, in circumstances of renewed external price pressures, manages to maintain inflation at a relatively low level. This is one of the positive economic indicator at the beginning of September. Industrial production in July recorded a growth of 1.3 percent year-on-year, and in the first seven months of the year it increased by 0.9 percent.
The latest economic indicators should be seen as a whole – growth in industrial production, growth in the economy and stabilization of inflation at a level lower than in the eurozone.
