The fire near the Prilep village of Caniste has spread into the settlement, with initial reports indicating that several old and abandoned houses have been affected, and it is possible that one house inhabited by people has also been affected, said the director of the DZS service Stojance Angelov.
Angelov said that the fire was reported via the phone-in system at 16h and Prilep firefighters received an earlier call about a fire in an open area near the village, which is located about 35 kilometers from Prilep. Because of the poor and winding road, it took firefighters about an hour to reach the village. By the time they arrived, the fire had already started to spread between the first houses and was spreading in at least three different directions outside the village.
Angelov informed that about 20 volunteers from the Bitola volunteer brigade are helping to prevent the spread of the fire. “It is good that there are no injured residents, and no injured firefighters,” said Angelov.
