Heart patient from Ohrid taken to Berlin for a transplant by the government plane

A citizen from Ohrid who was awaiting a heart transplant was transported today by the Government plane to Berlin, Germany.

The Center for Cardiovascular Surgery informed that the patient has a serious heart condition and has been hospitalized at the Cardiac Surgery Clinic for a long time, and he was qualified for a heart transplant. Since his health condition is deteriorating and requires faster treatment, and there is no suitable donor in the country to perform the transplant, the patient’s air transport has been approved.

Through a procedure for treatment abroad that is being carried out through the Health Insurance Fund and with the assistance of the Healthcare Ministry, the patient was referred to the Clinical Center in Berlin, from where he was accepted for treatment to stabilize his condition and prepare for transplantation, for which a suitable donor is being sought.

Some ten days ago, a young boy was also transported by the government plane from Bodrum, Turkey to Macedonia, after he suffered a serious spinal injury while on holiday. Due to the severity of the injury, the boy could not be transported by regular commercial flight, or by a vehicle.
