A reception marking the 35th anniversary of Macedonia’s independence was held in New York yesterday, MIA’s special correspondent reported. The event was attended by a high-level government delegation led by Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski—currently participating in the United Nations General Assembly—as well as diplomatic representatives, prominent Macedonians, and representatives of other ethnic communities from the diaspora.
“I would like to thank everyone joining us here tonight. Thank you for everything you do for Macedonia. We must never forget the past; we must always remember it, learn from it, and avoid repeating past mistakes. Macedonia is your homeland. The door home is always open to you. The goal of this Macedonian Government is for as many Macedonian citizens as possible to return to their homeland—to invest there, build their families’ futures there, and—together with Macedonians and our other fellow citizens—care for the future of Macedonia. Come, invest, and create in your homeland,” stated Prime Minister Mickoski.Addressing the prominent Macedonians from the diaspora and foreign guests, Prime Minister Mickoski outlined the economic situation in Macedonia, focusing primarily on the economy’s high growth rate. “We currently have perhaps the most stable government in Europe, with a roughly two-thirds majority in Parliament. That stability guarantees reforms and the delivery of economic results,” stated Prime Minister Mickoski, pointing to the 4.3 percent growth in Gross Domestic Product.“Meanwhile, fierce wars are being waged on Europe’s borders—the war in Ukraine, the crisis in the Arab Gulf, and an energy crisis unlike any humanity has ever known. Yet, the situation here remains quite stable. Macedonia is all we have, and it is worth fighting for a better tomorrow for the country. I look forward to your support as we jointly chart the future for our homeland and the citizens who live there,” Mickoski said.
