Activists protest after the murder of a young girl in Bogdanci

“We are not asking for sympathy; we are demanding accountability,” stated participants at a protest of activist groups in Skopje, following the tragedy in Bogdanci in which 17-year-old Biljana Kiric was killed in a murder-suicide. The protesters called for concrete sanctions regarding institutional failures, urgent legislative amendments to provide protection against violence, and the dismissal of officials whose public statements justify or normalize violence against women.

A protest march against femicide, held under the slogan “Not One More!”, began in Skopje following the tragedy in Bogdanci in which 17-year-old Biljana Kiric lost her life. Participants were marching through the city center, demanding accountability from institutions, sanctions for failures, and urgent legal changes to protect women from violence. With messages such as “We are not asking for sympathy; we are demanding accountability” and “The same police, the same institutions, the same failures,” the protesters pointed out that Biljana had previously reported violence and was under a court-ordered protection measure—yet she still lost her life.

The march passed by the Parliament and various ministries; and the primary demand is for institutions to finally take concrete measures to prevent further victims. “For all these failures, we demand names, accountability, and sanctions. We call for the urgent submission and adoption of legislative amendments for protection against violence,” the protest participant stated.
