Mickoski: our position on the Bulgarian demands remains unchanged

Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski stated today that the position of the Government regarding the requested constitutional amendments remains clear and unchanged, and expressed hope that the dialogue with Bulgaria will ultimately bear fruit.

“As for the constitutional amendments, our position as a Government is clear and unchanged. Unfortunately, due to the actions and anti-state policies of the previous government—comprising SDSM and the Democratic Union for Integration—we are now faced with a political condition: the constitutional amendments. Back then, while we were in the opposition, we repeatedly warned them against embarking on such adventures. Regrettably, they did not heed our warnings. Consequently, we may well be a unique case where, in addition to the substantive reforms we must implement, we are also confronted with political conditions. Nevertheless, it is what it is; we are engaging in a dialogue with our eastern neighbor. I hope that this dialogue will eventually bear fruit, allowing us to move forward with a process—finally, 21 years after attaining candidate status and 26 years after signing the Stabilization and Association Agreement—that will enable us to begin the actual negotiation process,” said Mickoski, who was attending an event in Pirava today.
