Kenyan runners dominate at the Skopje Wizz Air Marathon

Kenyan runner Derrick Chege Njoroge won the 22nd edition of the Wizz Air Skopje Marathon that took place in Skopje today. He completed the 42.195-kilometer course in 2 hours, 12 minutes, and 56 seconds. His compatriot Edwin Kimaru Kosgei took second place with a time of 2:13:21. Third place went to Macedonian runner Dario Ivanovski with a time of 2:13:49.

Kenyan runners also dominated the half-marathon (21 kilometers) in both the men’s and women’s categories. In the women’s race, Valentine Jebet won (1:13:16), ahead of Charen Chepkwony (1:15:10) and Nancy Gitaiga (1:17:25). In the men’s race, Kennedy Rono finished first (1:05:27), ahead of Kiptum Kimaiyo (1:06:12) and John Kuria (1:07:00).

In the 5-kilometer race, Macedonian runners Irma Hajdari (19 minutes and 43 seconds) and Emili Ivanovska (20 minutes and 54 seconds) took the top two spots in the women’s category. Lana Ivković from Montenegro finished third (21 minutes and 1 second). The 5 km race was won by the Macedonian Andrej Arsov (16:29 minutes); his compatriot Gilman Jonuzi came in second (16:35), and Fredrik Uhrborn from Sweden finished third (16:44).
