Simplified procedures to obtain parental and sick leave

The procedure for referring insured persons to a medical commission after the 15th day of sick leave is set to be digitized, announces Zlatko Perinski, Director of the Health Insurance Fund. Previously, when an extension of sick leave required approval from a medical commission, the primary care physician had to manually prepare a referral proposal.

Under the proposed amendments, this document can be generated and submitted electronically using the PSR form—”Proposal for Temporary Work Incapacity.” According to Perinski, this will simplify the process and reduce the administrative workload for primary care physicians. He emphasizes that the public debate focused primarily on the five-day period and the announced inspections, while the facilitations introduced by the amendments were overshadowed.

“We have two parallel goals: ensuring criteria are medically justified and making oversight more efficient, while simultaneously eliminating unnecessary administrative steps that benefit neither the patient nor the physician,” Perinski says in an interview with Republika.
