The Minister of Environment and Physical Planning, Muamet Hoxha, the Director of the Crisis Management Center, Muhamed Ali, and Vladimir Burevski, representing the Skopje-based company “Modirum Platforms,” signed a memorandum of cooperation today aimed at improving early fire detection and environmental protection, the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning announced.
The signed memorandum establishes a framework for implementing a pilot video-monitoring system for landfills; utilizing modern cameras, intelligent video analytics, and artificial intelligence, the system will enable the timely detection of smoke, fire, and other risks. The Crisis Management Center will provide 24-hour monitoring and notify the relevant institutions whenever a risk is identified, thereby facilitating faster response times and improved coordination, the statement added.
The Ministry explained that “Modirum Platforms”—a company that contributes its technology and expertise to initiatives regarding environmental protection, risk prevention, and the enhancement of public safety—will provide the system’s equipment for temporary use over a one-year period as part of its support for initiatives of public interest. With this pilot project, the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning is advancing the use of modern digital technologies in environmental protection, focusing on prevention, early warning, and more efficient response. The results of the pilot phase will serve as a basis for considering the possibility of expanding the system nationwide, the Ministry adds.
