Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski stated today that he had prior reports that opposition parties would try to create some kind of hysteria through social media a day ahead of the widely shared false reports that the water in Skopje in allegedly polluted.
When asked which opposition parties were involved, he replied that the investigation is now being led by the Interior Ministry, and that a dozen people have been questioned so far, so the details should be sought there. Mickoski emphasized that social media, like never before, aer now a field where everyone can writes untruths and whatever they want without any responsibility, pointing out that the opposition has also spread lies about the alleged opening of migrant camps, the electricity crisis, and last year, over the forst fires.
The Prime Minister said that he expects the new amendments to the Criminal Code will also include clauses to penalize the “conscious creation of hysteria”, and the carrying out of hybrid attacks that create feelings of unrest and fear among citizens.
Unfortunately, today, such messages are being sent through social media, which represent a kind of hybrid attack, messages whose purpose is to instill unrest, uncertainty and revolt among citizens. I understand that we are dealing with a desperate opposition, bereft of ideas, that is trying to create and construct hysteria in a way that may be exaggerated. Okay, they chose that tactic to score political points, but we will fight with projects, with hard work and with dedication because you cannot oppose and counter them in any other way. You can oppose the lies and constructions of the sad and desperate opposition with work and projects, said Mickoski, answering journalistic questions after the opening of the sports hall in a school in Kisela Voda.
The Prime Minister also said that in this case “there could have also been some more commercial motives”, because during that day, large number of the markets saw their reserves of bottled water empty out.
