Macedonia is beginning construction on a new highway from Bukojcani to Kicevo—the sixth project launched by this Government that will give full coherence to Corridor 8, signifying the corridor’s completion and establishing a continuous highway link between Skopje and Ohrid, stated Aleksandar Nikoloski, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, at today’s groundbreaking ceremony for the new highway. According to Nikoloski, this is a crucial section that will ensure a unified highway network across the country’s western region—connecting Tetovo, Gostivar, Kicevo, and Struga—thereby enabling the full integration of Corridor 8.
“These 12 kilometers are vital; they will provide coherence and unity to the entire highway network, not only between Skopje and Ohrid but for Corridor 8 as a whole. With this highway connection, the entire corridor makes sense,” Nikoloski said.
He emphasized that construction work is commencing precisely where the Ohrid–Kicevo highway ends, with the route continuing toward Bukojcani. Simultaneously, intensive work is already underway on the highway section connecting Bukojcani and Gostivar. “The terrain is mountainous and extremely challenging, requiring a great deal of expertise and experience; I believe the selected contractors, together with the supervision and technical support teams, will do an excellent job, and I am convinced the project will be completed within the scheduled four-year timeframe,” noted Deputy Prime Minister Nikoloski.
