I insist on publishing the report, said Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski after calls from SDSM that the official water quality report from Gostivar is made public. The city water supply was polluted for three weeks, after the local authorities inexplicably decided to pump untreated water in the pipes. The water was finally made safe enough to drink a few days ago.
Mickoski asked SDSM why do they insist to look for blame in the Government, but not in the city hall, that is directly charged with managing the water system, and where the Mayor was elected with support from SDSM.
But I am amazed why the first person responsible in the case, the Mayor of the municipality of Gostivar, is not mentioned in SDSM’s statements. When I say surprised, I say that ironically of course, because it is normal that this political party will not mention him, because it supported him in the local elections in Gostivar. And everyone knows that the municipal public utility company has jurisdiction in this case. The prosecution, together with the Interior Ministry, has already charged three people and, as far as I am informed, the investigation is still ongoing, it’s not closed. So, I think that the investigation may contribute to having others who would also be involved in this case, that is, for whom the prosecution or the Interior Ministry will conclude during the investigation that they have some share and participation in all this, said Mickoski.
The Prime Minister said that he is also surprised by the fact that SDSM is naming other municipalities that allegedly have poor water quality, but is not filing charges against their mayors.
Since the mayors did not take action, this Government takes action. The first moment we receives such reports, we took robust action, we cleaned the system and returned it to the ownership of the municipality of Gostivar and in the hands of the utility company that provides this service, added Mickoski.
