Construction work to complete the Clinical Hospital in Stip is expected to begin by the autumn of 2027, Minister of Health Sasho Klekovski announced today following a visit to the facility. He noted that he expects negotiations with the World Bank and the European Investment Bank to conclude and the project agreement to be signed by the end of the year. This will be followed by a tender process to select a contractor, estimated to take between three and six months.
“We have completed a second round of talks with the World Bank and the European Investment Bank. We expect the discussions to wrap up around the end of this year with the signing of an agreement between Macedonia and these institutions, after which we will proceed with the tender to complete the Stip Clinical Hospital. The tender process is expected to take three to six months. This means we would begin work on the hospital in the summer or autumn of 2027,” Klekovski stated.
He added that he is in constant communication with all relevant officials in the municipality and the hospital to manage the process more efficiently. “There is a total commitment to resolving this ‘monument to incompetence’ and demonstrating that Macedonia can get the job done,” Klekovski said. Klekovski assessed the conditions under which patients are admitted and doctors work at the Štip hospital as poor. However, he believes this should serve as a motivation to finally resolve the issue regarding the hospital, which serves over 200,000 patients from the Eastern and Southeastern regions.
When asked when the hospital’s damaged roof—hit by a severe storm a few months ago—would be renovated, Klekovski replied that a contractor had been selected, but there was a pending appeal regarding the project supervision. “A contractor has been selected, but there is an appeal concerning the supervision of the facility; once that is resolved, everything will be ready for work to begin,” said Klekovski.
