Newly appointed chief state prosecutor Nenad Saveski announced that tomorrow he will begin a review of the cross-department competences of all branches of the prosecutorial service, except in Kocani Kriva Palanka and Resen, where the service is short staffed. This means that all prosecutors who are working on cases outside of their local jurisdiction will have their powers revoked for review. In a press briefing, Saveski said that he has encountered a chaotic situation that needs to be reformed from the bottom up.
All current cases that involve serious accidents and organized crime will continue to be worked on without interruption. I will not leave the impression that a case was left without a prosecutor, said Saveski.
Saveski was asked whether this means that he will strip the politically affiliated prosecutor Lence Ristoska from two cases involving the VMRO-DPMNE party that were launched by the disgraced SPO office where Ristoska was a key prosecutor. Saveski said that he is not acting in her case individually, but is conducting a broad review of the service.
VMRO-DPMNE issued a statement regarding Ristoska, calling her out for the rampant corruption within the SPO service, where she and other prosecutors were awarding themselves massive bonuses, while engaging in politically motivated prosecution of VMRO officials. “Prosecutor Lejla Kadriu testified that Zoran Zaev and Radmila Sekerinska were working from the SPO office and personally directing which cases should be initiated, to best fit their political needs. This politically directed and lavishly paid gang buried all perception of justice and pardoned Zaev’s crimes worth millions”, said the ruling party in its statement.
