
The water in Skopje is safe to drink, informed the city utility company, after the SDSM party held a press conference alleging issues with it. SDSM is campaigning on the back of the unprecedented pollution scandal in Gostivar, where the local authorities pumped untreated water into the city supply causing massive health problems, to allege that other cities in Macedonia have unsafe water as well.
According to the results of the tests, all samples from the water supply system of the city of Skopje comply with the regulation on requirements for safety and quality of drinking water. The public enterprise emphasizes that today its sanitary control sector took 42 samples from the water supply network of the city of Skopje, of which four samples are from the well section Nerezi-Lepenec. The monitoring, is carried out in accordance with the regulationsfor safety and quality of drinking water, the company informed.
The citizens of a village several kilometers from the Rasce spring, which supplies most of Skopje, have been dumping garbage at an unregulated landfill and recent media reports drew attention to this issue, and raised concerns that this key spring can also be polluted.
