Around 100 euros per month—or a maximum of about 2,500 euros for two years is what it would cost citizens who want to begin to collect pensions but do not meet the criteria because they haven’t been paying into the system long enough, announced by Welfare, Demography and Youth Minister Gjoko Velkovski. Citizens who lack up to 24 months of contributing to the public pension system will be able to qualify for this option.
The measure will apply to inactive insured persons—specifically, individuals who are no longer employed, have reached the age of 62 (for women) or 64 (for men), and have accrued at least 13 years of employment service. According to Velkovski’s explanation, the cost calculation will be based on 50 percent of the previous year’s average net salary, with a contribution rate of 19.9 percent applied to that established base amount.
If the average salary is 45,000 denars, the base amount would be 22,500 denars. In that scenario, one month of service would cost approximately 4,478 denars, or roughly 73 euros. For the maximum period of 24 months, based on this calculation, citizens would need to pay around 107,460 denars, or approximately 1,750 euros. Depending on the final calculations, the total amount could reach approximately 2,500 euros.
Velkovski explained that the amount of the future pension would depend on earnings throughout one’s working life, the length of service, and the salary on which the individual was registered. The exact formulas will be determined by the final legal framework.
