A massive fire broke out in Siviri, on the first branch of the Chalkidiki peninsula in Greece. The place, which is popular with Macedonians, is being evacuated and hundreds of tourists are taken away with the help of local boats and a ferry.
The fire is still not under control, but the situation has improved significantly this evening, and additional firefighting forces from several parts of Greece are arriving, the MIA news agency reported. According to data from the Greek Coast Guard, 250 people from the beach in Siviri have been safely transferred to a near-by marina, while 196 people are on the ferry “Spidraner”.
Due to the fire, traffic in the wider area of Siviri is disrupted, and vehicles from Siviri are being diverted to Kassandria, and from Fourka to Kassandria, Polychrono and Skioni. The fire broke out around 14h local time and spread quickly.
