Macedonia holds a strategic position in the Balkans, where transport corridors 8 and 10 intersect, making it a central transit country for European transport. The Government is implementing a massive investment cycle worth several billion euros for the construction and modernization of the country’s road and railway networks. Under these circumstances, engineering expertise plays a crucial role in project implementation, stated Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Aleksandar Nikoloski at the Eurock 2026 scientific conference, organized by the Macedonian Geotechnical Society and the Faculty of Civil Engineering.
Nikoloski noted that it is a matter of prestige for Macedonia to host one of the largest gatherings in the field of civil engineering, bringing together hundreds of professors from around the world to discuss engineering challenges.
Skopje and Macedonia have the honor of hosting the event this year—and this is no coincidence; it stems from the success achieved by the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the 2023 gathering in Salzburg, where it won first place for innovation, leading to Skopje being selected as this year’s host city. “It is truly wonderful to see some 600 professors from all over the world—from every corner of the globe—discussing major engineering challenges in the field of civil engineering; this will undoubtedly be of great benefit to our faculty, professors, and researchers, and will certainly help us implement even more projects,” noted Nikoloski.
