Regarding the decision by the National Bank of Serbia to revoke the operating license of Alta Banka from Belgrade, the Macedonian Central Bank (NBRM) informed that this decision concerns the bank’s operations in the Republic of Serbia and does not, in itself, entail the automatic revocation of the operating license of Alta Banka in Bitola. The domestic bank is an independent legal entity, established and registered in the Republic of Macedonia, whose operations are assessed in accordance with the domestic legal and regulatory framework. As the competent supervisory authority, the NBRM is monitoring the situation and taking action in compliance with legal provisions.
NBRM also monitors all circumstances that could affect the operations of the domestic bank, including risks arising from its ownership ties. Within the scope of its legal mandate, the central bank takes appropriate action and cooperates with relevant domestic and foreign institutions, while adhering to legal requirements regarding the confidentiality of supervisory information.
Regarding the acquisition of a qualifying holding in a bank, NBRM points out that approval is granted following a comprehensive procedure, during which legally established criteria are evaluated based on officially available data. NBRM urges the public to rely on official and verified information and to refrain from drawing conclusions based on unconfirmed claims or speculation. The National Bank will continue to closely monitor the situation and act independently, professionally, and strictly in accordance with its legal mandates, in the interest of the stability of the banking system and the protection of depositors.
