The investigation into forged driver’s licenses encompassed a total of 27 individuals against whom criminal charges have been filed on suspicion of the unlawful addition of vehicle categories to licenses, as well as their issuance and use; meanwhile, Minister of Internal Affairs Panče Toškovski emphasized in an interview with MTV last night that the matter is now in the hands of the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the courts—bodies he hopes will reach a lawful and just decision that serves as a future deterrent.
This operation targeted 27 individuals. Based on the information available to me, some of those involved have provided valuable statements; some acted honestly and conscientiously, explaining that they participated as part of a negotiation process. I believe this case should serve as a stark warning to anyone who might dare to break the law in the future. The Ministry of Internal Affairs has implemented a system that detects any unauthorized alteration of data, making it very easy to identify this type of illegality committed by police officers. While investigating such matters may take time and require significant dedication from the Department of Internal Control, we have demonstrated—in this instance as in all others—that wherever we detect unlawful conduct, we will respond appropriately. “The ball is now in the court of the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Court—particularly the Court. I therefore hope that a lawful, fair, and just decision will be reached—one that will serve as a future deterrent to anyone who might dare to commit an offense involving this type of authority and legal jurisdiction,” the minister stated.
Criminal charges were filed against 27 individuals—including an employee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs—on suspicion of the unlawful addition of vehicle categories to driver’s licenses, as well as their issuance and use. The charges were submitted to the Skopje Public Prosecutor’s Office by the Ministry’s Department for Internal Control, Criminal Investigations, and Professional Standards.
