39 police officers are being investigated for failing to act in a tragic domestic abuse case

State prosecutors will investigate the work of 39 police officers, who failed to act in the tragic domestic abuse case that prompted a mother from Skopje to kill herself and her daughter.

A dedicated prosecutor tasked with investigating the police forces has picked up the case after an internal review found that 39 officers failed to investigate the numerous violence reports from the woman. Initial reports indicated that she would then, likely under pressure, withdraw some of her allegations, but this was not supposed to prevent a full investigation. The husband, who is on trial, acknowledged inflicting an injury on his wife and endangering her safety in one count, but pled not guilty in the charge of inciting her to commit suicide.
