Parliament scraps a relic of the Colored Revolution era

The Parliament voted today in favor of abolishing the technical Government rule – after the next elections. This means that the next general election will be held under this rule – which provides that the Prime Minister will resign and that opposition officials will take over several important ministries, but after that the improvised rule introduced during the Colored Revolution will be scrapped.

We should stop treating Macedonian democracy as a patient on life support and show that it can work and function democratically. We are adopting this law to provide institutional stability in the future, and leave the Przino labyrinth, said VMRO-DPMNE representative Nikola Micevski – Przino refers to the long EU and US mandated negotiations between VMRO-DPMNE and SDSM during the Colored Revolution that led to this rule.

Micevski said that after the first technical government, subsequent such governments had significant defects, up to the point when SDSM removed a technical minister nominated by VMRO-DPMNE.

SDSM threatened to end talks on the electoral codes if this rule is abolished. The troubled opposition party denied rumors that it also intends to stop working in the Parliament altogether in protest, and even boycott the next elections.
