An illegal cannabis plantation was discovered yesterday in the Strumica region during a police operation; 680 kilograms of cannabis plants were seized, and two individuals were arrested.
The Ministry of Interior announced today that the Strumica Department of Internal Affairs has filed criminal charges with the Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office in Strumica against Z.M. (34) and A.T.G. (30)—both from the Municipality of Novo Selo—on suspicion of committing the criminal offense of “unauthorized production and placing on the market of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, and precursors” under Article 215 of the Criminal Code.
Acting on a prior mutual agreement, the suspects cultivated the soil and planted and grew cannabis plants in a concealed section of a plot of land at a location known as “Matnik,” within the territory of the village of Sekirnik in the Strumica area. Acting on a court order, police officers from the Strumica Department of Internal Affairs carried out various official actions and special investigative measures—with technical support from officers of the Regional Center for Border Affairs “East”—securing evidence linking the suspects to the cultivation of the cannabis plants; subsequently, they were arrested and detained at the Strumica Police Station. During questioning, they admitted that after obtaining cannabis seeds, they prepared the soil and established an illegal “plantation” where, in May 2026, they planted the seeds and cultivated the plants for the purpose of producing marijuana, the Ministry of Interior announced.
