Macedonia is once again under the impact of a strong heat wave. Due to extremely high temperatures, the entire country is in the orange alert phase, and according to the forecasts of the Hydrometeorological Directorate, the hot weather will continue throughout the next week.
In addition to the heat, high temperatures additionally increase the risk of fires, so in recent days active fire hotspots have been registered in several locations across the country. The CUK Crisis Management Center informs that combined teams from several institutions are constantly on the ground and are intervening where it is most critical. Fires in several locations are also being dealt with by teams from the fire brigade of the city of Skopje. They say that firefighters are on constant alert and are actively working to localize the fires and repair the consequences.
There is also an active fire at the landfill in Kriva Palanka, where a landfill is burning. Mayor Sasko Mitovski announced that combined teams are engaged in extinguishing the fire and are making efforts to bring the fire completely under control. Authorities continue to warn that the risk of fires occurring and spreading rapidly remains extremely high. Citizens are urged not to light fires outdoors, to avoid staying in forest areas during the hottest part of the day, and to immediately report any smoke or fire.
