Uni Banka is up for sale. Today, the Steiermarkische Sparkasse Group officially submitted a notification of its intention to acquire all ordinary shares issued by Uni Banka AD Skopje. According to the bank, the announcement of this intention to acquire marks the first, initial step in the process.
The actual execution of the transaction and the takeover offer in the coming period are subject to legal and regulatory procedures, including the mandatory acquisition of prior consents and approvals from competent institutions in Macedonia, as well as from relevant international regulatory bodies. In this context, the Sparkasse Group remains fully committed to the successful, transparent, and responsible implementation of all subsequent steps, in accordance with applicable regulations and the highest professional standards.

Years of poor management by Uni Banka’s leadership drove the bank to rock bottom, ultimately resulting in its sale. Vladislav Hadzhidinev led the bank for eight years before leaving in June 2025, having left the institution in a dire state. Just over a year after his departure, the bank is being sold. Milka Todorova, Chairwoman of the Management Board, is also seen as bearing significant responsibility for the bank’s decline, as is Delco Krstev, who was appointed Chair of the Management Board following Todorova’s dismissal and Hadzhidinev’s departure. The survival as well as the employees’ jobs are on the line. Now, in a state of despair, they wonder what will become of their employment, as their livelihoods are seriously at risk.
Steiermarkische Sparkasse has been present in Macedonia since 2008, with current total assets in the country amounting to nearly two billion euros. Following the acquisition of Uni Banka, Steiermärkische Sparkasse will hold total assets of approximately €2.8 billion in Macedonia and a market share of around 17 percent.
