SDSM leader Venko Filipche surprised the public when, in an interview, he claimed that he drives an old car that is now worth just 6,000 denars. The former Healthcare Minister, widely reported to have different investments together with the Zaev clan, and to be using a luxury Audi from one of Zaev’s companies, did not list an old car in his property list.
In the asset declaration submitted to the DKSK (State Commission for Prevention of Corruption), Filipche does not list a car worth 6,000 euros; instead, he lists two motor vehicles—one belonging to his spouse: a Mercedes worth 44,000 euros—as well as a motorcycle worth 25,000 euros, similar to the one he was seen riding with Zaev.
Why did Filipche claim to own a car worth 6,000 euros when no such vehicle appears in his asset declaration? Could it be that the car is actually more expensive—perhaps an Audi received as a gift in exchange for a tender? Is Filipche hiding something from the public? Furthermore, what else might Filipche lie about? If he lies about something like this, who knows what else he might lie about in the future, should he come to power?, said VMRO-DPMNE in a statement.
