The Supreme Court today overturned two important sentences and sent them back to retrial.
In one decision, the court overturned the sentences against employees of the Durmo Turs bus company. One of their busses crashed in 2019 while commuting on the highway between Skopje and Tetovo – 16 passengers were killed and 30 were injured. The company was seen as close to the then ruling DUI party.
The court also accepted an appeal from the defense team representing former Karpos Mayor Stevce Jakimovski, sentenced to prison for corruption. Jakimovski is serving out his sentence, while seeking medical leave. Now the sentence is rescinded and the case will be sent back for retrial.
