A 66-year-old man from Kumanovo with underlying health conditions is the latest fatality from West Nile virus in Macedonia.
Fadil Cana, Director of the Infectious Diseases Clinic in Skopje, stated to the media today that the 66-year-old patient had been hospitalized at the clinic for 28 days. He had presented with a severe clinical condition. Cana reported that 66 patients have been hospitalized to date; currently, 11 remain at the Infectious Diseases Clinic, one of whom is in serious condition.
The last admission of a patient with West Nile virus to the clinic was on September 19, the director said in response to a reporter’s question.
This marks the ninth person in the country to succumb to the West Nile virus.
