In Kocani, the city that was devastated by the Pulse nightclub fire in March, the mayoral race takes place between two independent candidates and an SDSM candidate.
After half of the votes were counted, Vlatko Grozdanov, an independent candidate supported by VMRO-DPMNE, is in a significant lead with 2,656 votes, ahead of independent candidate Venko Krstevski, who served as temporary Mayor after the disaster (1,373 votes) and the SDSM candidate Igor Hristov (1,045 votes).
