The United States and Israel launched attacks on Iran today, as President Donald Trump called on the Iranians to rise up against the Islamic regime.
Attacks are being carried out against Iranian leadership, air defenses and other military targets. Iran responded immediately, with attacks on neighboring countries that host US forces – the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and Saudi Arabia, as well as launching missiles at Israel, targetting military but also high profile civilian targets such as luxury real-estate developments in Dubai. By the end of the day, Iran also announced that it is closing the straits of Hormuz, through which a large chunk of the global oil supply flows.
We are going to destroy their missiles and raze their missile industry to the ground. We are going to annihilate their navy, we are going to ensure that the region’s terrorist proxies can no longer destabilize the region and the world, Trump announced in his address to the nation, in which he blamed Iran of killing and wounding US soldiers in Iraq and other countries, and of refusing to give away its nuclear program.
Trump warned that U.S. service members could lose their lives as a result of the military operation, saying “the lives of courageous American heroes may be lost and we may have casualties. That often happens in war, but we’re doing this for the future.”
