The Judicial Council has urgently assembled for an extraordinary session to address President Sashko Georgiev’s formal plea to conclude his term and to deliberate on the recent Administrative Court verdict regarding the removal of former president Vesna Dameva.

This meeting follows a preliminary working session earlier today, during which Council members examined the Administrative Court’s ruling annulling their decision to oust Dameva.

The Administrative Court’s published judgment on Wednesday highlighted the Judicial Council’s failure to present substantiated evidence or reasons supporting Dameva’s dismissal.

Dameva was removed last spring following a proposal from Vice-President Selim Ademi. Subsequently, she lodged a lawsuit with the Administrative Court contesting her dismissal.

The public and judicial experts expressed widespread discontent with Dameva’s removal, citing procedural irregularities in the process.

Additionally, an EU-deployed peer review mission provided 40 recommendations aimed at enhancing the Judicial Council’s functionality in response to these events.
