VMRO-DPMNE President Hristijan Mickoski said that it is absolutely necessary that the next public prosecutor is nominated by the opposition, since that is the only way to loosen the grip which the Zaev regime has over this service. This, Mickoski added, is also the only way to have a serious investigation into the major racketeering scandal.

Why are they afraid if the head of the new prosecutor office for high level corruption is a credible person proposed by the opposition? If they are as honest as they say, that is. At one point during our talks, Mr. Zaev complained that if he allows that to happen, the prosecutor will “bury him in charges”. If he is clean, if he believes in the lawfulness of his actions, then there is no reason to fear anything, Mickoski said during his interview with Alsat TV.

The talks Mickoski held with Zaev earlier this week failed as the Prime Minister refused to accept an opposition nominated prosecutor to investigate the racketeering charges. VMRO-DPMNE insists that the current prosecutors working on the case are covering up the scandal to help Zaev and his SDSM party.
