NATO would not confirm the report in the Greek daily newspaper Kathimerini that Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg is allegedly sent a letter to both Macedonia and Greece urging to countries to complete the ratification of the treaty between Zoran Zaev and Alexis Tsipras no later than February 15th so that NATO to would be able to issue an invitation to Macedonia to join the Alliance.

According to the MIA correspondent in Brussels, NATO does welcome the treaty between the two countries, but would not comment on the personal correspondence by the Secretary-General and a NATO representative reiterated that the Alliance does not play a role in the implementation of the treaty which depends fully on and Macedonia and Greece.

Macedonian Parliament is working feverishly to amend the Constitution, while in Greece questions are being raised whether the Tsipras Government has enough votes in Parliament to push the treaty true in face of opposition from both his nationalist coalition partner ANEL and the leading opposition New Democracy party.

Meanwhile, Zaev confirmed at a press conference that Stoltenberg sent the letter, saying that it is a reassuring sign.
