Opposition VMRO-DPMNE party considers the upcoming vote in the Parliament to rename Macedonia into North Macedonia as the “final act of the dark scenario initiated by Zoran Zaev and the SDSM party”.

This treaty will change the name of the country, our identity, the language, culture and history. Zoran Zaev and SDSM sold out our national and state interests, violated our Constitution, the laws and the will of the Macedonian citizens, VMRO-DPMNE said in a press release.

The opposition party says that equally damaging is the way in which the process has been forced forward, with fabricated criminal charges against members of Parliament, bribes and arrests.

SDSM has made it clear that laws or democratic procedures don’t apply to them. They violated the clearly expressed will of the citizens at the failed referendum when they declared their opposition to the name change. SDSM did nothing else for the past two years and are only focused on changing the name of the country, identity, culture and history of Macedonia. For this purpose Zaev is using the Kacarska led judiciary, the Ruskoska led prosecutors and the special prosecutors, and in a criminal way is blackmailing the members of Parliament to vote and implement his plans to bury Macedonia, the party says.

VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski yesterday joined the protests against the name change, and its representatives are boycotting the process inside the Parliament.
