Liverpool’s assistant manager, Pep Lijnders, confirmed on Tuesday that Trent Alexander-Arnold will face several weeks on the sidelines due to a knee injury sustained during Sunday’s 2-0 FA Cup victory against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

Addressing the media ahead of the League Cup semi-final against Fulham at Anfield on Wednesday, Lijnders shared the update: “Unfortunately, there’s some not-so-great news. Trent hyper-extended his knee during the last game. He has a minor tear in the lateral ligament of his knee and will require recovery time. He underwent a scan, and he’ll be out for a few weeks. We’ll assess further after that.”

Acknowledging Alexander-Arnold’s crucial role in the team, Lijnders expressed, “He’ll take time to recuperate and hopefully return to his previous form. He was instrumental in our matches, consistently creating from deep positions and offering the team exceptional flexibility. He will be sorely missed.”

Lijnders also mentioned that Virgil van Dijk, who missed the Arsenal game due to illness, is now available for selection. However, Dominik Szoboszlai remains sidelined.
