Bulgarian Defense Minister Krasimir Karakacanov accused Macedonian top diplomat Nikola Dimitrov of being duplicitous in his treatment of Bulgaria.
We help them, but they work behind our backs. Nikola Dimitrov comes to Sofia, goes to my office, we talk friendly, we don’t use an interpreter. He sends regards from his father, who is a good Bulgarian and wrote excellent articles about how the Macedonian nation was created. It would do good to his son to re-read them now. He walks out, goes to Foreign Minister Zaharieva, again hugs and kisses, and then goes to Brussels and spits on Bulgaria, Karakacanov said.
The Bulgarian nationalist politician added that he expects the veto of Macedonia’s EU accession talks will act like a “cold shower on a drunk person who lives in illusions”.
A small sobering moment, and hopefully we can sit on the table and have an honest dialogue between two peoples who have a common history and speak the same language. This is what we expect. If not, we are not in a hurry, Karakacanov added.
