Albanian police apprehended an individual from Paskuqan, Tirana, as they attempted to transport marijuana and firearms with live ammunition into Macedonia using a taxi.
Dubbed the “Taxi driver” operation, law enforcement arrested M.M (51) after discovering 8.2 kg of marijuana and a ‘Scorpion’ automatic firearm with live ammunition concealed in two carrier bags within travel bags during a vehicle search near Pogradec. The intended destination for the seized items was Macedonia, according to the police report.
This police action is part of the operational plan “Rule of Law,” aiming to prevent, detect, and suppress cross-border crime. Smuggling attempts from Albania to Macedonia, particularly via Lake Ohrid by boat, have occurred before.
Recently, Pogradec police intercepted around 30 kg of marijuana intended for smuggling by a fishing boat, with the transporter set to receive EUR 500 per kilogram.
