Representatives of Bulgarians in Macedonia want to be made part of the negotiations between Macedonia and Bulgaria. Petar Kolev from the GDU party, which is positioning itself as the main voice of Bulgarians in Macedonia, says that this is the only way to ensure their representation.

We want guarantees that the Macedonian Bulgarians will be equal in the Constitution and the implementation of this in practice. I’m convinced that this will help restore trust and give new impetus to our relations. This will also open the door to include Bulgarians in the Macedonian state system, our representation in the institutions and, why not, inclusion in the negotiation process. Who would be better to convince Sofia that our country deserves to open the EU accession talks than the Macedonian Bulgarians, asked Kolev.
