Prosecutors from Demir Kapija are charging a local doctor who was tasked with caring for a badly neglected, disabled 11 year old boy who died in 2020 from dehydration.
The boy from Ohrid, who had cerebral palsy, was abandoned by his parents and left on the street. After neighbors alarmed the public, he was taken to a foster family near Demir Kapija, where the local specialist center for disabled children was supposed to provide constant care. But the doctor in charge left the boy without oversight and treated his issues over the phone.
For a period of five days, during which Ilche, as the boy was named, suffered from diarrhea and fever, the doctor failed to come and administer at least an IV drip. Ilche died in October 2020.
