VMRO-DPMNE member of Parliament Vladimir Gjorcev spoke before the EPP representatives at the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and warned against the political persecution against the opposition going on in Macedonia.

Gjorcev informed the conservative parliamentarians about the latest arrests of VMRO officials Mile Janakieski and Spiro Ristovski, who were attacked by Albanian terrorists in prison immediately after being detained, as well as the attempt to strip of immunity and arrest former Parliament Speaker Trajko Veljanoski.

It is unacceptable for a democratic country that detained citizens can’t feel safe and that the Government doesn’t guarantee their safety in prison, Gjorcev said.

Following his remarks, the EPP group used its social media account to express concern about the political persecution and the attack on Janakieski and Ristovski, as well as to call that the Government ensure the coming presidential elections are free and fair.

Gjorcev, who used the name Republic of Macedonia for his country, also warned against the rise in nepotism and the mass hiring of relatives of Government officials in the public sector, in an attempt to subvert the public administration to the ruling SDSM party. According to Gjorcev, this is leading to an increase in migration from Macedonia, as young people realize that the country doesn’t offer equal opportunities.
