Bulgarian member of the European Parliament Ilhan Kucuk is named the next EU rapporteur for Macedonia.
Kucuk comes from the DPS party which represents mostly ethnic Turks in Bulgaria and is aligned with ALDE/Renew Europe liberal-democratic group in the Parliament. The group is dominated by the En Marche party of French President Emmanuel Macron, who vetoed Macedonia from opening the EU accession talks last month.
Kucuk replaces Slovenian MEP Ivo Vajgl, in a situation when most of the MEPs involved with the Balkans either retired or lost their races.
