During his official visit to Washington, Interior Minister Oliver Spasovski engaged in discussions on Wednesday with Congresswoman Claudia Tenney, who serves as the co-chair of the Congressional Caucus on Macedonia and Macedonian Americans.

According to the Interior Ministry’s report, the talks between Spasovski and Tenney revolved around the significant role played by the Congressional Caucus on Macedonia, Americans of Macedonian origin, and the Macedonian-American community in the United States. Spasovski took the opportunity to express gratitude for the support and active involvement in enhancing bilateral ties, fostering cultural exchange, and advocating for the interests of the Macedonian community in the United States.

“The Republic of Macedonia aspires to a secure, stable, and prosperous future within the larger European family of the EU. Our focus is primarily on deepening democratic reforms, reinforcing the rule of law, and sustaining economic development. The Macedonian-American community and the support from the US play a crucial role in all these efforts. Our cooperation as NATO allies is grounded in shared values of democracy, human rights, and peace. We aim to strengthen this cooperation through increased bilateral initiatives, joint projects, and programs. Therefore, dialogue with U.S. representatives is of utmost importance,” highlighted Minister Spasovski, expressing appreciation for the personal commitment of Congresswoman Tenney.

Minister Spasovski also thanked Tenney for her personal efforts in initiating Macedonia’s accession negotiations with the EU and her dedication to the Congress resolution designating September as a month to promote and celebrate the Macedonian language, culture, and history among Americans of Macedonian descent, recognizing their centuries-long contribution to America.

“The Macedonian-American community has fully embraced the freedoms provided by American society and has integrated into various fields, including arts, science, business, politics, medicine, sports, and others. This integration is possible due to the opportunities for equal participation and contribution in building civil and religious freedoms and fundamental human rights. They have become active contributors to the community’s development. Today, I am pleased to say that the Republic of Macedonia is following this model, aspiring to build a society where everyone deserves equal opportunities,” stated Spasovski, expressing confidence in North Macedonia’s commitment to advancing Euro-Atlantic integrations and strengthening institutions.

During the meeting, Minister Spasovski requested support for the adoption of the Western Balkans Democracy and Prosperity Act. Additionally, he emphasized that Macedonia sees no alternative to the EU and highlighted the importance of deepening the Strategic Dialogue between the Republic of Macedonia and the United States. Congresswoman Tenney expressed satisfaction with the opportunity to meet with Minister Spasovski and reiterated her strong support, dedication, and affinity for the Macedonian-American community in the US, emphasizing her ongoing efforts to connect with Macedonian individuals in the country. She once again affirmed her support for the resolution designating September as a month to promote and celebrate the Macedonian language, culture, and history among Americans of Macedonian descent, recognizing their centuries-long contribution to America.
