In 2024, the Parliament is gearing up for its upcoming session, commencing with a coordination meeting between Speaker Talat Xhaferi and the parliamentary groups’ whips on Tuesday. This marks the prelude to the final months of this assembly, especially with the looming presidential and parliamentary elections scheduled for mid-February.
The political parties have reached an agreement stipulating the initial round of the presidential elections for April 24. Subsequently, the runoff, alongside the parliamentary elections, is slated to occur concurrently on May 8.
Speaker Xhaferi, expected to assume the role of caretaker Prime Minister, has indicated that the session to elect the interim government is slated for January 27. Preceding this event will be his resignation and the election of Jovan Mitreski from SDSM as his successor.
Today’s coordination meeting will address the Parliament’s January agenda, including the pending selection of an opposition member for the State Election Commission.
The Parliament’s inaugural plenary session of 2024 is scheduled for January 16, marking the commencement of its activities for the year.
