VMRO-DPMNE President Hristijan Mickoski had meetings with French officials in Paris, to discuss EU enlargement, the coming early general elections, Macedonia’s stalled reforms and the growing corruption issues. Mickoski said that, following the April 2020 elections, VMRO-DPMNE will form a government which will focus on reforming Macedonia and fighting corruption.
We discussed the political and economic situation in Macedonia, as well as the new methodology for enlargement contained in the so-called non-paper which was presented before the public. We relayed our message that after the early general elections in April, a VMRO-DPMNE led Government will focus on quality reforms in the rule of law, ensuring the independence of the judiciary, which is lacking at this point. Everything that perhaps looks good on paper will be improved in real life, and what is currently not working will be delivered in our reforms that begin immediately after the elections, Mickoski said.
Accompanied by party deputy leader Aleksandar Nikoloski and Igor Nikolov, Mickoski met with the deputy head of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Assembly Jacques Maire and senator and former defense minister Alain Richard.
France was and remains a strategic partner for our country and it our chief supporter within NATO and the European Union. We presented our message that Macedonia will not just promise but will deliver on what it promised. This includes ensuring the rule of law, and an uncompromising fight against crime and corruption which, as I said, is currently there on paper but is lacking in real life, Mickoski added.
